Host Family Ministry PDF Print E-mail

Each week the Lord of the Church stirs the hearts of many to come to His House to worship.  As a Host Family, it is your privilege to serve as your Lord’s Host, welcoming those who have accepted His invitation to come to His House.  Your basic responsibility is simply to be your Lord’s ambassador and make His guests feel needed, wanted and loved as well as encouraging others in the Family of God here to do the same.   This ministry activity has a great impact on our members and guests, especially on those joining us for the very first time.  If they are not made to feel welcomed or if no one greets or speaks to them, then they will probably never come back again.

Guidelines

Before the Service

  • Arrive at least thirty minutes prior to the start of the worship service.
  • Position yourselves, one couple at the main door and the other at the Welcome Table, and welcome and greet everyone with a warm smile and friendly words as they enter for our worship services and Christian Growth classes.
  • Encourage everyone to fill out a nametag and offer Prayer Cards and Church Cards to all. Make sure you have a couple of our Church Cards in your possession to give to our guests.
  • Introduce yourself to first time guests and introduce them to other members of the congregation.  Suggest that our members offer our guests a visit to our refreshment area (normally in the kitchen) and be available to help answer questions they might have about our worship or ministry.
  • Inform families with small children of the nursery and be prepared to answer questions on times of services and the location of the restrooms within the building.  Introduce them to the Child Development Director and/or those assisting in the nursery that week.
  • Notify an usher of the first time guests to assure that during the service a Friendship Folder makes it into their hands to record their family information.

After the Service

  • Be at the rear door after the service and greet the guests as they leave the sanctuary.
  • Introduce our first time guests to Pastor after the worship service if it wasn’t convenient to do so previously.
  • Ask our guests after the service how they enjoyed the worship and if they have and questions.
  • Extend to them an invitation to return again and worship with us.  Always let them know how great it was to have them worship with us and how honored we would be if they came back and that you will keep your eyes open for them.
