Pastor's Assistant PDF Print E-mail

The Pastor's Assistant (PA) is a very vital service area, for he actually assists the Pastor with the details of each worship service.  The basic responsibility of the PA is to make sure that the many little details of the worship service that need to be taken care of are covered.  The PA is the coordinator of all of the ministry teams during the service: Ushers, Host Families, Nursery Attendants, and Altar Care.  This allows the Pastor to concentrate on ministering to the people and to focus on his message.  As the Pastor’s Assistant, you serve as one of God's ambassadors, willing to share his love & joy with others as we serve our Lord!

GUIDELINES

  • Arrive at least thirty minutes prior to the time of the worship service.
  • Pick up a Worship Folder, look it over, and ask the pastor if there are any special instructions.
  • Check the "SERVING TOGETHER IN MISSION & MINISTRY" schedule and make sure that the various ministry tasks are being covered and assist where needed – Host Family, Ushers, etc.
  • Be bold and ask others not scheduled to lend a helping hand if necessary so our worship is orderly and the worship details like the following are covered:
_____    Friendship folders on center aisle chairs
 _____    Communion tables positioned
_____    Proper lighting and altar floodlights
_____    Containers for children’s worship bags
_____     Altar candles lit 3 minutes prior to service _____    After the worship reposition items
  • Greet as many guests and members as you can and make them feel needed, wanted, and loved and encourage other members to do the same, especially encourage our members to introduce themselves to our guests and others who look neglected.
  • Join the Pastor, the Praise Team, and Prayer Team member(s) for prayer 5 minutes before the Worship Service begins if possible.
  • Check to make sure an accurate count is taken for the Worship Services, attendance at Holy Communion and Dinner (Wednesday’s) and record the count on the Attendance Form on the usher table.  Include in the count everyone present, including the pastor, praise team, and those in the nursery or classrooms. You might have others help in the counting and recording.  After the Sunday service, place the completed Attendance Form in the Church Office.
  • Join the worship assistants and the Praise Team at the first table for Holy Communion (your family is invited to commune with you at this time) and then see if you can take care of the nursery while those helping in that ministry take Communion.
  • Greet and introduce yourself to as many guests as you can after the service.  Thank them for coming and invite them back.  Give them one of our church's visitor’s packet and/or other available handouts.
  • Encourage people to help with the Take-Down.  Make sure everything finds its way back to its rightful place.
  • Extend to those involved in service a heartfelt comment of thanks for their work.
