Men of Christ was created in 2006 by a group of men from Heart of the Shepherd Lutheran Church at a Promise Keepers convention in Grand Rapids. We thought that it would be a great ministry to hold a mens conference that was local and that specifically reached out to the men of Livingston County. Well, to make a long story short, we made it happen. We reached out to some of the other churches in the community to partner with us in this ministry. A few of them shared our vision and jumped on board. In August of 2007 we held the first Men of Christ Conference at Heart of the Shepherd. It was a wonderful success with over 150 men in attendance. All the profits went to The Family Impact Center, LACASA and The Pregnancy Help Line.
We decided that we were so blessed by the results of the 2007 conference, we began planning the 2008 conference. We decided to host this event at another venue, so we used one of our partnering churches, The Brighton Church of the Nazarene. Ticket sales for this event were pretty slow right up to the day of the event. But God’s hand was definitely at work at this conference. Though we only had around 80 men in attendance, we had 11 men come forward and dedicate their lives to the Lord that day. With the weak ticket sales the budget was barely met, but through some last minute donations we were again able to bless The Family Impact Center, LACASA and The Pregnancy Help Line with a financial gift.
After this event it was decided that we needed to focus our attention to our home churches. Some of our founding members started attending seminars on mens ministry to try to get some ideas on how to reach out to the men of Heart of the Shepherd. We have since then focused our attention on building bonds with the men of the church, one man at a time. We have used several different methods to accomplish this, to varying degrees of success. One thing is for certain, is that this ministry is growing.
In 2009 we had our first softball team, fishing tournament, mountain biking ride group, and let’s not forget the MOC Deer Camp. All of these outreaches we intend to do again next year. We have also done a few service projects to help out some people in need. Get Involved: We are always looking for new ways to reach out to the men of our church. We encourage anyone to join us in our quest to reach each and every man of our church and beyond. Let us buy you a cup of coffee and shoot the bull and see how we can get you involved in this ministry. Shoot us an email or just ask for
