We place relationships at the heart of quality care.

Our child development center follows a relationship-based child care model.

Relationship-based centers foster the feeling of community, where it feels like a family.  The attachment between teacher and child is the starting point, the goal, and our most important work.  This attachment begins with a positive parent-teacher relationship.  Solid relationships with parents allow the teacher to more readily bond with a child.  Early relationships teach children who they are and what they can expect from the world.  Their healthy brain development thrives on loving attachments and a secure sense of belonging.

Our program is characterized by positive, warm, accepting attitudes toward children of all races, cultures and creeds.  Christ-like love, Christian morals and values become true-to-life and set the tone of the classroom.

At Heart of the Shepherd we strive to challenge and stimulate each child at his/her own developmental level while fostering a positive self-image by accepting each child as an individual.  The Center staff strives to create a responsive, relaxed, happy and intellectually stimulating atmosphere.

Resources

We believe that children learn best through play.

Our teachers emphasize the process of an activity rather than its outcome.  Each child’s learning style and unique processes are valued and respected.  We regularly provide opportunities for self- initiated and spontaneous types of play, along with other times for teacher-directed group activities, which the children are encouraged to join. Other parts of the schedule involve regular daily routines such as snack time, clean up time, lunch/rest time, etc.  The Center considers every segment of the day to be important in the total program, each offering the children unique opportunities for growth and learning.  We encourage reasoning, questioning, and experimenting to enable children to learn from their world through the use of basic open-ended materials such as water, sand, paint, and blocks.
